Greetings to all members!
This is a message from the region The Realm Of Criminology. First of all we want to say that this is not a normal recruitment message. We are not trying to steal players away. We are only looking for people who are interested in and willing to help us in our ultimate goals which lie above the playing of the game. These goals are as follows:
Our vision for our region is for us to develop a justice system that will assist the game of NationStates. We hope that one day in the future we will have enough active members to develop a justice system that will, in effect, be the court where members can bring their grievances. I foresee that we will have judges, a professional jury, and prosecutors and public defenders, as well as court reporters and investigators.
Our vision is also that we would be so successful that even the mods would use it as a device. That is, if a player does not like a mod ruling, they can bring it before the court. We foresee that as a rather long range goal.
NS could really use a justice system like this. We know the mods are doing what they can, but since there are no rules or boundaries they all act very inconsequently, which results in a lot of unnecessary injustice and anger from those who are subjected to it.
Another problem is that the mods can do as they like and never have to give any real explanations for what they do. They never have to account for their actions. The line "This is the way the game is run, you either do as we say or you can find another game. Now shut up or we delete you!" is a far too common mod response, even if the arguments you provide for your case really make sense.
We are not saying the mods are evil, they are volunteering and doing their best; it is just that there is no good foundation in the form of a set of rules for them and the players to live and act by. Because of that players end up doing wrong things unintended and the mods can do nothing but act differently all the time and get stuck in the discussions that follow. Finally they have to let people go with unsatisfactory stories. We can change this by providing a good set of rules, an overall NS judicial code.
We think a short range goal is to begin planning as to how we can implement a system of justice that everyone can be bound to. Obviously, the UN is a great tool, but very few nations are members. Accordingly, there is no forum in which a person may bring evidence and be judge by his or her peers in NationStates. We could be on the verge of an important task.
We need players who are willing to be active, and as this region grows, we foresee that we would be able to evenly divide the workload. For now, we will just begin the planning stages. We have drafted a constitution and as soon as it has been voted on we will begin developing the Manual for the Court.
If you are interested in helping us in our efforts, please come to the region of THE REALM OF CRIMINOLOGY or TM myself or Myrdinn.
Thanks!
