Longtime West Pacific delegate Norion is currently in fierce competition just to continue to stay in power. The Queendom of Darlin, population 518 million, has managed to nearly tie the incumbent in UN endorsements. Apparently she was able to be unnoticed in the rise for endorsements until today.
The two have been having a go at one another on the region's civil headquarters. Both sides have been under criticism in the past hours for what is believed they may do to the other. Norion is expected my some (mostly those in the NPO) to eject Darlin minutes before the North Pacific update to continue his hold on power. However, if Darlin becomes the next delegate an ejection of Norion is expected to be the first thing she does in power.
Francos Spain and the NPO are on a lot of people's minds this evening. Certainly few outside the Pacific and its sympathizers want to see an NPO puppet government in another Pacific. Other Pacific governments have responded to Francos Spain by enacting legislation laws designed to prevent relatively unknown nations from endorsement swapping massive amounts of endorsements to become delegate. Ironically, this has led to a virtual oligarchy of power in the other Pacifics, certifying that only those approved by the current government are allowed to succeed them.
The exception is The Biggest Leaf Pile of 1 Infinite Loop, who has been a ruthless dictator of the East Pacific for nearly a year, having won it from Pirates. Infinite Loop rules his region under the philosophy of "Absolut Government."
Because Darlin is so unknown, there is no telling what kind of delegate to expect from her. It is essential to safeguard a region from oppression, given the mistake of TheDoc and the Savage Land's NPO-affiliated attempts at becoming delegate of the West Pacific and the South Pacific. Can we blame the authorities for trying to do their job if it means a blanket standard?
But if they are possible saving liberty, is it worth it to deny residents a free election, in the only way that the Pacific can? If you have an opinion, let's hear it in the NetWorkRadio forum.
This may be many things tonight. There might be a reason to eject Darlin from the West Pacific (possibly for violations of West Pacific regional law, which have become enforced more); Darlin may eject Norion tomorrow if she wins; I'd like to think there will be an amicable (if forced) shift of power over to Darlin, with no banning of the former government, like the North Pacific race in January.
As it stands, Norion has 504 endorsements to Darlin's 503. Anything could tip the balance of power in Nationstates' second largest region.
Edit: All spelling errors corrected. For the uninebriated, "Absolut Government" is a pun.
